It must happen at least once per generation. From the noise and fury of the hardcore scene, a name occasionally emerges that shatters the prism through which the genre is seen, scattering its shards in every direction. It happened with Fugazi, with Rage Against the Machine, Refused, and At the Drive-In. And it has happened again with TURNSTILE. The band from Baltimore is the emblem of contemporary hardcore, but at the same time, they're far from just another hardcore band. Details like their collaborations with BadBadNotGood, A.G. Cook, and Shabaka Hutchings or choosing Snail Mail as an opening act on tour place them as outsiders within the very genre they lead. Still riding the momentum of GLOW ON, the album that became their ultimate launch pad in 2021, TURNSTILE has released NEVER ENOUGH, a record where their expansive hardcore stretches out even further.
